    Local Initiative School

The 2018-2019 school year is Arminta St. Elementary's 3rd year as a Local Initiative School. What this means is our instructional program is based on the specific learning needs of our students as well as a 21st Century curriculum that integrates Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, & Mathematics. Arminta’s vision is to also promote a dynamic learning community where all stakeholders play an active role in helping students achieve their greatest potential. Our goal is to enhance learning through data analysis, co-teaching, technology integration, projects based learning, Educator Development & Support Frameworks, English Language Development, and the use of Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards. This year we were the recipients of a technology grant  through LAUSD's Instructional Technology Initiative, giving all of our students 1:1 devices such as I-pads and Chromebooks. We also partnered with UCLA's Center X for year round training in Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI) in mathematics. For language arts we have implemented an Early Language Literacy Program (ELLP) where students are placed in academies to target skills necessary for reading comprehension. For parents, we have ongoing adult classes such as English as Second Language (ESL) and computer literacy which take place in our newly renovated parent center.

Finally, it is Arminta’s vision to instill in each student the desire to learn and become socially responsible adults and productive citizens of the world. We are committed to making our students’ college and career ready by providing a risk free and academically rich environment. We value the pursuit of lifelong learning and are dedicated to nurturing high self esteem and respect for others. Our ultimate goal is to empower each student to achieve their greatest potential through multiple pathways to success.
